It seems like someone is telling us what we shouldn’t be doing everywhere we turn. Don’t eat too much sugar, don’t spend too much time on your phone, and don’t be too loud in public. The list goes on and on. It can be exhausting to hear what we shouldn’t constantly do. That’s why we’re here to remind you that plenty of things are okay! Here are ten things you don’t have to feel guilty about – no matter what anyone else tells you.

Taking Time for Yourself:

It’s essential to recharge and care for yourself; nobody should make you feel bad. Whether you need to take a day off work or need some alone time at home, do what feels right for you.

Eating Comfort Food:

Sure, it might not be the healthiest option, but sometimes we must indulge in our favourite comfort foods. Please don’t feel guilty about occasionally treating yourself to ice cream, pizza, or mac and cheese.

Being Emotional:

Society tells us that showing emotions is a sign of weakness, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Being vulnerable and sharing your feelings takes strength; you shouldn’t be ashamed.

Saying “No”: It’s okay to say no to plans, requests, or invitations if you don’t feel up to it. You don’t owe anyone an explanation; your mental and physical health should always come first.

Taking a Break:

Burnout is real, and it’s important to recognise when you’re reaching your limit. Don’t feel guilty about taking a break from work or responsibilities. Your well-being is worth it.

Asking for Help:

Nobody can do everything independently, and there’s no shame in reaching out for help when needed. Whether asking a friend for support or seeking professional help, don’t be afraid to ask for what you need.

Being Different:

We’re all unique individuals with our own interests, passions, and quirks. Embrace what makes you different, and don’t let societal norms or expectations hold you back from being your true self.

Making Mistakes:

Nobody’s perfect, and mistakes are a part of life. Instead of beating yourself up over them, learn from them and use them as opportunities for growth.

Trying Something New:

Getting stuck in our comfort zones is easy, but trying new things can be incredibly rewarding. Don’t be afraid to take that dance class, try contemporary cuisine, or explore a new place.

Celebrating Your Successes:

It’s too easy to downplay our accomplishments or feel like we don’t deserve recognition. But you’ve worked hard and deserve to celebrate your successes – no matter how big or small.

Not to be responsible for other people’s feelings:

We all have emotions; wanting to help others feel better is normal. But ultimately, you can’t control how someone else feels; don’t take responsibility for that or allow them to project their feelings onto you. You don’t need to feel guilty about being yourself, caring for yourself, or living your best life. Focus on what you can control – and do your best to be supportive of others.

There you have it – ten things are absolutely okay in a world full of “shouldn’ts.” It’s time to let go of the guilt and shame that often comes with doing what feels suitable for us. Whether taking time for ourselves, eating comfort food, or celebrating our successes, we deserve to live authentically and unapologetically. So go ahead – do what makes you happy, and know that it’s more than okay.
